The Dice Factory project – Outreach Workshops

After a successful first year of The Dice Factory project they are looking to expand the reach further to take workshops out into the community, engage with different groups and share the message of hobby positivity.

With support from the Tribune Trust and the High Sheriff of Lincolnshire they are able to offer both intro/taster sessions and short courses for different elements of the tabletop hobby. These sessions will be free to access and will be facilitated at no cost to the host organisation.

All they need is a communal space to set up in!

Miniature Painting

Miniature painting workshops will encompass taster sessions for young people or adults as well as a three week course for those with a greater interest. Taster sessions will focus heavily on having fun with the process of creativity, the storytelling in the use of colour and light and will leave participants with something tangible they have created to take away at the end of the workshop. The short course will take those with more of an interest and delve further into learning technique and skills. Guiding through the steps from a plastic kit to a completed piece that they can be proud of.

Board Games

They have a wide range of board games already in The Dice Factory collection ranging in theme and complexity and there’s always something that catches peoples interest. These aren’t the old days of arguments over a game of Monopoly. These games typically encourage cooperation with other players, logical thinking skills and positive collective storytelling. Again for both young people or adults they are happy to facilitate social board games sessions for total beginners right through to those who may already have experience. This is an opportunity to get away from screens and make positive social connections!

Creative Writing

We all know storytelling has the power to bring people together and explore social issues in a safe and meaningful way. We engage in it every day through TV, film, books and music yet many people find the creative process behind the stories we consume difficult to approach. For young people and adults these intro sessions will guide through the process of creating worlds, characters and stories through the lens of roleplay games such as Dungeons & Dragons. In doing so those involved will be able to safely explore issues such as physical and mental health, identity, discrimination, politics and the environment.

Session Details

All sessions have a focus on positive mental wellbeing, inclusivity, confidence building and loneliness busting. They are all entirely beginner friendly with no expectation of any previous experience.

Sessions are facilitated by a qualified social worker with volunteer support and can be tailored to the expected audience. Sessions will typically run for 2-3 hours and can be run in the daytime, evenings or at the weekend. All materials are provided for participants with no cost of entry or for ongoing participation in further sessions. They anticipate a maximum group size of 15 to ensure that all participants feel included. Sessions can be for young people or adults or a mix of both dependent on setting. They are happy to run one off sessions or arrange a regular schedule.
