This new initiative – Tackling Food Surplus at the Farm Gate scheme -connects farmers with charities, ensuring good food feeds communities instead of going to waste.
Food redistribution charities can now apply for funding through a £15 million Government scheme aimed at ensuring surplus farm food reaches those in need. This fund will support many charities that lack the resources to recover and distribute.
Available grants start from £20,000 to help organisations fight hunger and reduce food waste.
Funding can support:
- Building partnerships with farmers to access surplus food
- Expanding transport and distribution capacity
- Investing in refrigeration, storage, and transport
- Procuring packaging and labelling equipment
