To partners; Support for Protecting Children Online
The children across our communities are spending more time online during the lockdown period. This raises the threat of them being at increased risk from predators who will seek to use this opportunity to their advantage.
Not In Our Community (NIOC) is an established local anti-grooming campaign, funded by the PCC, that helps young people protect themselves and friends against grooming that can lead to sexual and criminal exploitation. In light of the lockdown, we have developed some material to highlight the heightened risks across this period and to direct people to the resource available.
I am reaching out to all parents/carers and youth engagement professionals across the Humberside area and need your help in circulating this material to them.
- Prepared a ‘Snapshot Overview’ (aimed at parents/carers and youth engagement professionals) to highlight areas of increased risk of exploitation online for young people and directing them to tools available,
- Signposted to four key Not In Our Community resources that have been tailored to the home setting,
- Created a new ‘home learning’ section on the Not In Our Community website with links and more information (https://notinourcommunity.org/home-learning/)
The attached ‘Snapshot Overview’ signposts parents to the resources available via the Not In Our Community ‘home learning’ website. It also alerts users to the heightened risks and the steps that can be taken, by parents of children of all ages, to help to protect their children. The ‘Snapshot Overview’ can be sent either on its own or with the letter I have written for parents, if this helps.
Please use whatever resource you have available to help me send this communication as far and wide across our communities as we are able. Prevention is key.
Thank you for your support.
