From Housing Economy & Growth, North East Lincolnshire Council:
The weather is certainly turning colder and I wanted to give you information on the procedure for SWEP referrals this year.
We will not be running SWEP as we have in previous years due to the pandemic, and the need for creating Covid Safe placements for rough sleepers. We are working with Public Health colleagues and RSI funded partners to ensure the accommodation we offer is safe and follows Government guidance.
We currently compile a weekly list of rough sleepers which is circulated between our Rough Sleeper Initiative partners, and this is discussed at fortnightly Provider meetings to consider suitable accommodation options available. We are confident therefore, that we have the names and locations of all known rough sleepers in the Borough.
Based on the current lists and on intelligence from HPS, Harbour Place Outreach and MIND Navigator services, we have identified possible placements throughout the winter period for the majority, but some unfortunately at this time are proving reluctant to engage with Services. We will have alternative options coming on line before Christmas and will continue to engage with people around health and well-being and to see if they reconsider offers of assistance.
We also have an emergency bed available in case of out of hours approaches from people who become homeless which will be available for that night and then alternatives will be sought following assessment by the HPS the next working day.
If you do know of anyone who is homeless or at risk of homelessness within the next 56 days please ensure a referral is made to the Homelessness Prevention Service, via this link HPS referral and they will be assessed accordingly for assistance.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
