Rethink Mental Illness: Expert by Experience Leaders

Sent on behalf of Rethink Mental Illness:

MENTAL HEALTH CHARITY RETHINK MENTAL ILLNESS ARE SEEKING TO RECRUIT MORE EXPERTS BY EXPERIENCE LEADERS FOR THEIR NORTH EAST LINCOLNSHIRE EXPERTS PANEL

What is an Expert by Experience (EbE) Leader?

An EbE Leader has lived experience of serious mental illness and has used local services in North East Lincolnshire also included in this opportunity are their carers.

What do the panel do?

The Panel of Experts by Experience represent Rethink, themselves and other users of mental health services in North East Lincolnshire to ensure the voice of the community is heard and taken into account in decisions being made as part of the mental health transformation.

What would I be expected to do?

You would be expected to attend meetings and boards either in person or on Teams or Zoom.  As an equal partner at the meetings, you would ensure that the needs of the service user community are considered and included in decisions being taken.  You will ensure that changes are designed to give the best outcomes for the people using services and that your lived experience helps to shape the service provided to be the best it can be.  You will seek the views of other users of mental health services so that you are representing yourself and others and you will work in partnership with other organisations to co-produce plans and strategies for mental health transformation in North East Lincolnshire.

Will I be paid?

YES. You will be paid for your involvement, £15/hr or £50 per half day.  This payment should not affect any benefits you are already in receipt of and we can support you with a letter to inform DWP of your involvement.

When would I do this? How many hours would it take?

You will decide which meetings you can and cannot attend.  The only thing we ask for is consistency and reliability.  If you agree to attend a specific group of meetings we would like you to keep attending those meetings to enable continuity and understanding of the topic.  They usually fall on the same day of the week and at the same time, but some are more changeable depending on the meeting.  There is no set pattern to the involvement you will have and this is something we will agree with you.

What qualifications do I need?

NONE. There are no qualifications needed.  You do need to have lived experience of serious mental illness in North East Lincolnshire either as a patient or carer.  You do need to be willing to be reliable as much as possible and you do need to be well enough to be able to attend meetings.  If you are able to use Teams and Zoom that is helpful but training can be provided.

If you would like to know more please contact me and I will send you more details and an expression of interest application.
