For your information, Hull and North East Lincolnshire were successful in being chosen to be a pilot site for the Oral Contraception Management Service within Community Pharmacy for the ongoing management of oral contraception. This pilot is the first tier in the provision by Community Pharmacy of contraceptive services.
The aim of the pilot is to create additional capacity in primary care and sexual health clinics and provide improved access for patients. The objectives are to test:
- A model for community pharmacy teams to continue the provision of contraception supplies initiated in primary care or sexual health clinics to undertake a review and supply process
- An integrated pathway between existing services and community pharmacies to allow people greater choice and access when considering continuing their current form of contraception
The pharmacies within North East Lincolnshire who are providing the service at the present time are:

Although this service is delivered by Community Pharmacy, PCNs, GP practices and providers of sexual health services play a vital part with their roles and responsibilities being to:
- Provide clinical support to community pharmacy is required
- Promote the service and signpost patients
- Commit to support higher tiers as the service develops (pending positive evaluation of tier 1)
- Commit to support the evaluation and service design to shape higher tiers
