NELC COVID-19: Business grants and support

Update NELC:

Business Support Grants during National Lockdown Restrictions (from 5 Jan 2021)

Local Restrictions Support Grants (LRSG) – for businesses forced to remain closed

Further to the Government announcement on 4 January 2021, we have now been placed in a further lockdown situation with businesses forced to close.

The Chancellor has announced a £4.6bn support package of one-off top-up grants to closed businesses as follows:

  • £4,000 for businesses with a rateable value of £15,000 or under
  • £6,000 for businesses with a rateable value between £15,000 and £51,000
  • £9,000 for businesses with a rateable value of over £51,000

This will be in addition to the scheduled 14 day payments closed businesses will be eligible for. We anticipate the 14 day payments will commence mid January, and businesses will be notified in advance of payments being made.

In addition, discretionary grants are being made available for local Authorities to support other businesses not eligible for the above grants. As yet we do not have any detail on the amount allocated to our local area, or eligibility criteria for this support.

Please note, if you are not a ratepaying business, or you are supply chain and not forced to close, there is no guarantee that we will be given funds to support all businesses and the application process may be different – any payments you have had from us previously will have been purely discretional on our part and subject to available funds.

As soon as new information is given to us we will publish the guidance and eligibility criteria, in the meantime please do not contact us. Keep checking this page for updates.

Businesses who completed an application form during the November national lockdown SHOULD NOT NEED to make a new application.

Once the guidance and grant allocations are confirmed, eligible businesses will receive an email from us to check their circumstances remain unchanged. Business must inform the Council if there have been changes since their application was submitted, which may affect their eligibility.

Businesses who did not make a grant application during the November national lockdown, who have been forced to close or consider themselves to be eligible should complete the Local Restrictions Support Grant Application – external site.

Please note, applications for the November lockdown close on 31 January 2021 and no further claims can be accepted after this date.
