Deadline 21st November
The Ferens Art Gallery is calling for submissions from professional and amateur artists for the 2022 Open exhibition. Whether you are a seasoned exhibitor or entering for the very first time, if you’d like your work to be seen by thousands of people, or to sell, then the Ferens Open is the platform for you.
All UK artists aged 16 or above can enter and are eligible to submit up to three pieces of work for consideration between Tuesday 2 November and Sunday 21 November 2021 using an online application form. Works will then be selected by a panel of specialist judges from the arts sector. This year the selectors will be Sabine Bieli, Visual Artist, Dr Rosy Gray, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery, Norfolk and Andy Train, Pride in Hull Co Vice-Chair / Creative Director.
The chosen artworks will be on display from Saturday 19 February until Monday 2 May 2022.
This is a unique opportunity for artists to show their work alongside internationally significant examples from the Ferens permanent collection, such as Pietro Lorenzetti’s panel painting of Christ between Saints Paul and Peter, c.1320.
Prizes are on offer for the chosen works, which have been kindly donated by Friends of the Ferens and BSB Architecture, they include:
- Friends of the Ferens Award: Awards of £350 (first prize), £250 (second prize) and £200 (third prize) will go to winning entries selected by the Friends of the Ferens.
- Future Ferens Young and Emerging Talent Award: Young artists age 16 to 25 are eligible for this prize. An award of £150 will go to an artist selected by BSB Architecture and the Future Ferens.
- Chair’s award: Hull Culture & Leisure: An award of £100 will go to the winning entry selected by Hull Culture and Leisure Chair Marjorie Brabazon
- People’s Vote: An award of £100 will go to a winning entry selected by the public
It costs £5 to submit each piece of artwork, and the work must have been created within the last 18 months. All artists will be notified of the selector’s decision by email. Only successful artists will be required to deliver their artwork to the gallery from Saturday 15 January to Friday 28 January 2022.
