Exploited Young Persons’ Volunteer Mentor

The NEL VCSE Alliance are working on a new project within North East Lincolnshire, called GRAFT (Gaining Respect and Finding Trust) and looking to recruit several volunteer mentors to support children and young adults who are Victims of Exploitation, trafficking and Modern-Day Slavery.

The GRAFT project is a Home Office funded project aimed at delivery of interventions to help victims of exploitation achieve a positive destination and reduce their involvement in Child Criminal Exploitation (CCE).

The Volunteer Mentors will go through a comprehensive training programme, with a minimum commitment of at least two hours per week for a 3-4 month period, however, some training days will require a full day’s attendance. At the end of the training period you will have a fazed introduction to the child or young adult you will support.

Support will be sourcing and taking the person to sports, arts, creative activities etc or even involving them in your own interests, all individually based on what the young person is interested in or wants to become interested in. All throughout the programme the practitioners themselves will provide the support and interventions needed; your role will be to become a trusted adult, helping them become less involved in exploitative situations and to give them access to someone who is not an organisation or statutory professional – with the ultimate goal of helping to safeguard young people and support them them to exit their exploitative situation.
