Sent on behalf of the Department for Levelling up, Housing & Communities:
Last month, the government published guidance setting out a framework for how local partners can work together to cut drug crime, make streets safer and save lives in their local communities.
The guidance introduces new Combating Drugs Partnerships which will span the whole of the drugs strategy; tackling supply chains, providing treatment and recovery services, as well as reducing the demand for drugs. Partnerships will also play a role in overseeing and co-ordinating relevant funding streams to provide the necessary link between funding and delivery.
Each partnership should appoint a single senior responsible owner (SRO) to act as chair and take responsibility for reporting back to government on local cross-cutting delivery against the new National Combating Drugs Outcomes Framework, alongside their own specific organisational objectives.
The government is calling on local areas to confirm their Combating Drugs Partnership’s geographical scope, SRO and membership using the online form below by 1 August.
The government is hosting webinars to explain the guidance, answer questions and help councils meet the deadline mentioned above. There are two dates available:
- 13 July – 10:00 – 10.45am – Introduced by Dame Carol Black, independent reviewer of drugs
- 22 July – 2:00 – 2.45pm – Introduced by Rachael Millar, Director of the Joint Combating Drugs Unit
The webinars will be held on Microsoft Teams and a link to register can be found below.
