The deadline for applications to the Coop Local Community Fund is midnight on June 28th.
This fund is not a simple grant fund where you apply for a set amount for a project you want to run. It’s an award made by members of the Coop who decide which local cause they want to support with 1% of their spend in local shops. Applications are assessed by the Coop membership team, who select which local causes to go forward to the Coop members. Members choose which to support and then the awards are earned over the year, with payments made after six months and then at the end of the year. Amounts tend to be in the region of £1,000 – £5,000 – but these are reliant on Coop members shopping in Coop stores.
You and your clients/members/supporters could all become Coop members and have a vote!
So this is not a good fund to apply for if you need a fixed amount of money to pay for a project that won’t happen unless you get the grant. It is a good fund to apply to if you are able to run the project already, but an extra contribution in six months and a year’s time would be welcome, and you have the capacity to work at promoting your work to Coop members with the support of the Coop Membership Team, and you are doing work that meets the Local Community Fund criteria:
- Bring the community together to help those in need, providing access to life’s essentials, such as community spaces, food and bereavement support
- Support the mental and physical health of others through community wellbeing activities
- Enable people to develop or share their skills to foster community spirit and build resilient communities for the future
