Community Power Update from New Local

Community Calling: People want more influence

“Communities want to have more influence over the issues they face, the challenges they want to overcome, and the services they use.”

We’ve published the full findings of our research on the role community power could play in solving the country’s biggest problems. Read the report here.

We found that the feeling of disconnect runs deep between decision makers and the public, with 79% of people agreeing that Westminster and Whitehall are making decisions about people and places they know little about.

We also found significant support for community power. 71% of people think that there should be a legal right for communities to have a say over how local services are run.

“The local people know what’s best for them and the decisions that need to be made.” – Focus group participant
