Advice and Good Practice for Venues

Whilst terrorist and extremist activity in the area is rare it is important that we all take steps to reduce the likelihood of extremist groups using facilities and buildings in our area. 

There are individuals and groups that advocate or promote extreme views including: hatred, intolerance, division, and the use of violence.

These individuals or groups may also have the potential to create community tension, media attention, and cause reputational damage. There are many varied ideologies that motivate people and groups and it is important to take care to find a balance that takes account of the right to free speech and someone’s human rights whilst creating an environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect and diversity is valued.

The attached document, Advice and Good Practice for Venues, has been created to help community groups, parish council and local businesses to help support us all in building strong and resilient communities and ensure groups that spread intolerance and hatred are not given a platform locally.
